What do I need to bring?
XFLIGHT supply all technical equipment, just remember to bring your voucher or booking details.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing, and ideally soft soled sports type shoes. No loose objects are permitted, hair pins, jewellery, cameras etc have to stay on the ground.
When should I arrive?
Arriving at the time of your booking is fine, allow between 60 and 90 minutes to complete your experience.
Are flights weather dependant?
Yes, strong winds, low cloud, or heavy rain may prevent us from flying. Phone ahead on the day of your booking to confirm suitable weather.
Is it safe?
All aviation carries with it inherent risk, however every precaution available to us has been taken to ensure your safety. Don’t forget you’re not alone up there and your pilot has done this many times before, they are just as concerned about their safety as you are of yours.
Pilots undergo rigorous testing and training, and the aircraft is full maintained and inspected every 25 hours!
XFLIGHT is also a Certified Air Transport Operator by the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority.
How do we pay?
We accept most forms of payment, EFTPOS, VISA, Mastercard. Some credit cards not accepted.
Are there any weight or height restrictions?
Yes, maximum weight 110kgs, and max height 6’ 3”, 190cm
I have a medical condition, can I go flying?
This is your call to make. If you have any concerns we suggest you consult your own medical professional to satisfy yourself in this regard.
I have a disability, can I still fly?
We will certainly do all we can to accommodate you. It is recommended that you be able to enter and exit the aircraft unassisted. This can be a little tricky, similar to getting in and out of a high performance race car. You may also be restricted to certain flights, please contact us directly for more information.
Do you sell gift vouchers?
Yes, available online or from our reception.
How many people can go at a time?
We can only take one passenger at a time, the pilot needs the other seat.
What is the difference between the aerobatic flights?
Differences are detailed in the ‘flights’ section of the website.
Can I bring a camera?
You are more than welcome to take photos on the ground but we cannot take any loose objects with us when we go flying.
Will we be able to see the flight from the ground?
Unlikely, we travel very quickly and must be clear of any operational airport or populated area whilst performing aerobatics. You can however get a good view of loading, take-off, and landing from our premises on the airfield.
Do you sell any merchandise, hats, t-shirts etc.?
Yes all available at our airport premises.
Can I buy a DVD of my flight?
Yes, DVD’s are NZ$80 and take approximately 60 minutes to produce, so can be taken with you or we can put one them in the mail.
Can we purchase a longer aerobatic flight?
Consult your pilot for this option, most people find our flights are long enough, if you wish to extend your flight we suggest adding a scenic leg to the beginning of your flight.
Can I upgrade my flight in the air?
Yes, we can give you a taste of the next level in the air and you can pay the difference on the ground on your return. We will need to know this is a possibility prior to aircraft loading due to fuel requirements.
Do I get to fly the aircraft?
If you like you can choose to purchase an add-on to your flight that will allow you to take control of the aircraft. Add $90 to the cost of your flight to cover certification, and the short extension to the flight that will allow you to have a go. How qualified are the Pilot’s?
Very. Our pilots are not only licenced commercial pilots holding aerobatic flight ratings, they are experienced competition pilots and certified flight instructors, not only can they provide you with a safe and enjoyable experience, they can even teach YOU how to fly upside down!
Is there anywhere for people to wait on the ground?
Yes, we have a very comfortable air conditioned in door viewing area, as well as a Cafe and Bar on site.
Is there an age limit?
Passengers under the age of 18 will require a parent or guardians consent. Our eldest passenger to date is 89, we look forward to beating this.
Where do you do the aerobatics?
This varies depending on the weather or the type of aerobatics being conducted. We try to move around and fly as high as possible to reduce the impact of aircraft noise on the local population and environment.
Can you do the flights in other towns?
Yes, we can book a day to fly in your town, contact our flight desk to discuss options and fees.
Should we eat before flying?
It is advisable to have a small meal before flying aerobatics, eating nothing can be as bad as eating too much, but don’t overdo it.
What happens if I get air sick?
You pilot will take good care of you, we carry sick bags on board, about 1% of people make use of it. Our pilots are not there to show off or deliberately make you ill, the objective is to have a good time, so we do our very best to make sure you get to enjoy the thrill without being ill.
Do you take emergency parachutes?
Yes, we are one of the few operators in NZ who do. We are fortunate enough to have sufficient spare loading capacity to be able to carry the extra weight. Max parachute weight is 110kg. However with the G loading the Extra can take it is probably the least likely aerobatic aircraft to require its occupants to need them.
Are you open public holidays?
We are closed Easter Friday & Sunday, Christmas Day and New Years Day.
If I buy a package flight how long is it?
Add a further 5-10 minutes to the scenic duration to allow for the aerobatic component.
Do you offer a pickup service?
Yes, we have private transfers available from any Auckland location, $150 return for up to 4 people. You can also take the train from Britomart to Papakura, and we can collect you from there.
